With our feet-on-the ground approach, Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE) provides expert advice and guidance through a 40-person team of Business Development (BD) experts deployed regionally in nine locations across the province.

Meet Andreas Waller who works out of Ontario’s Southwestern region.

What do you enjoy most about your BD role?

Connecting companies, people and ideas. I find great joy in helping companies find solutions and stay competitive. It is very rewarding to do this job on a full-time basis where my knowledge and connections can come to great use.

What is your professional background?

I’m a mechanical engineer from Sweden with professional experience in manufacturing-based sales management, business development and market entry strategy. I have worked for small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), large multinationals and startup organizations in Europe and North America.

Describe your areas of specialization.

I specialize in transportation, manufacturing and automotive sectors.

What is your best piece of advice for a start-up or entrepreneur?

Know your market, strengths and areas of improvement. Keep your expectations positive, flexible and realistic. Listen to your customers and find solutions to their pain points.

What do you look for in a company when assessing potential for success?

I look for attention to detail, passion and perseverance.

What book or movie would you recommend to a budding entrepreneur and why?

There are many good books for entrepreneurs, but if I must choose one it would be “The Innovator’s Dilemma” by Clayton Christensen. It illustrates the important interrelationship and balance between technology and business success.
